Ray98 on "unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [receiver]"

Hello,

I have installed Idrive on a Linux Redhat 6.7 environment but when I try to authenticate the account with the Linux script ./login.pl we get the following error:

idevs: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [receiver]
idevs error: error in idevs protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(459) [receiver=1.0.2.8]

The above error also occurs with the idevsutil command line:

idevsutil --config-account --enc-type=PRIVATE --pvt-key=<key file path> --user=<username> --password-file=<account password>

From the error reported it reads to me that the connection is being dropped at the Idrive end (receiver) for whatever reason.

I have tried the latest idrive scripts and idevsutil script and still the issue occurs.

We have idrive working on servers with the exact same set-up and version so I can't help but think there is something network wise preventing the connection.

What tests am I able to run to IDrive to confirm this or is there anything else that I am missing?

Many thanks,

Ray

I keep getting emails telling me that Backup failed. It is suggested my internet connection is intermittent which it is not, OR that 'I should check I have the the necessary privileges on the local firewall settings'. Idrive has been working perfectly for months and suddenly this happens. What should I do?

Hi idrive,

I just upgraded my Synology NAS to DSM 6.0.2-8451 Update 9 (from update 8).
IDrive app is running, I can open the web page, but cannot authenticate with my synology acccount anymore.
It says "host name not resolved".
This used to work before, but somehow is broken now.

I tried restarting, even completely reinstalling Web Station, Perl and IDrive apps, but no success.

Can you please help me? I am stuck.

On my wife's Toshiba laptop which has been successfully using iDrive for quite a long time is now getting the backup engine not running indication. I tried the basic suggestion I found online to restart the backup engine but that didn't help. I need some advice so I can get this backup going again.

Thanks,
Bill

CPEKCadmin on "Receiving (seemingly false) Failure Notifications"

We've got iDrive running on a machine to back up a single directory (~200Mb), and have received a failure notification email upon the first scheduled backup. The notification claimed that the backup had failed as there were no files to back up.

I went through the logs and sure enough it had completed, but it stated that only half of the files had been backed up.

Now, even more confused, I checked to see if all the files in the directory were restore-able and it appears that they are.

Are we missing something on our end or is this an error in the system that isn't properly tracking the status of the backups?

Sparky on "Unable to cancel account - no cancelation mechanism"

I'm done jacking around with your broken software and have since switched to Backblaze, which has been operating flawlessly. Unlike iDrive, no files are skipped, it's unobtrusive, the backup size is correctly calculated, it always runs when it's scheduled, and I never have to delete/reinstall it.

Meanwhile, I don't see the "cancel account" link on my iDrive Profile page: Screenshot of iDrive Profile page

As per your FAQ.... scroll to the bottom: "To cancel your account before the end of your subscription term, PLEASE CONTACT OUR Support Team".

So I contacted iDrive Support. They told me to log into my account, go to the Profile page and click on "cancel account". That's exactly what I tried to do in the first place, but THERE IS NO "cancel account" button or link. So I replied and explained it a second time. Again, I get another response telling me the same thing! I even sent the screenshot.

What is it about iDrive Support that makes them so incompetent at reading/comprehending what the customer is trying to tell them?

I am fed up with how much time was wasted dealing with iDrive Support on the iDrive software bugs. Now that I want to cancel, it's taking even more time/energy.

Consider my account canceled, and if you take my money, the charges will be reversed and you will be reported to the authorities for fraud.

Thank-you.

howard36 on "Have two Step verification for all idrive accounts including Idrive free"

HI I have a feature for future editions of Idrive programs and the idrive account login. The feature that I want to talk about is called two step verification. The way this works is you set two step verification up on your idrive account by putting your cell phone number or landphone number into the space provided during setup of two step verification when you go to you login to your idrive account on the net or when you login to your idrive desktop client. The first thing you do is enter your username and password and push continue. Then the next space provided your cell phone sends you a text message automatically and you have to enter a six digit number and then you push verify and then you are logged into your idrive accout either through your idrive account on the idrive site or though the idrive program on your desktop or laptop computer.

If you choose to provide your landline number during two step verification then after you put your username and password and push continue then your landline phone will ring and a voice on the other end will say the six digit number witch you will put in the space provided and then push verify. After this six digit number is verified on the site or desktop client you are automatically logged into your account.

I should also mention that this feature is safer then just a password because if a hacker gets your account password and you have two step verification setup on your cell phone a hacker will not beable to get into your account on the idrive website or the idrive Client with out your cell phone and a six digit number.

I should also mention that every time you login into your account with idrive and you have 2 step verification setup two step verification will send you a different six digit number every time you login to your account or into the idrive Client for stronger security.

2 step verification should be optional for people to Enable in idrive settings in the idrive Client on their desktop computer or phone and also have 2 step verification so that it can also be enabled and disabled in the settings on the idrive website.

Thanks idrive team
keep up the great work

Is anybody else having trouble with the quality of support from IDrive?

I've asked these questions 5 times and they have refused to answer:

1. What does /SCH/D mean in the logs when it shows up in a file path vs.
something like D:?

2. What is the most common reason why "files already present" would drop
by nearly 80,000 (in one day) while the "files considered for backup" stays the same
at roughly around 210,000?

Hello,

I am new subscriber and I have a NAS drive that has duplicate files on it. I know there are duplicates (sometimes entire directory structures are duplicated).

Does your software that you install on the PC allow you to search NAS drives to find duplicate files and give help/good way to clean them up?

Or do you suggest another good tool to do so?

I want to get everything cleaned up before I start my backup.

I saw one or two posts in the forums about software to use but they were from 4 or 5 years ago.

Thank You,

Every night when the scheduled backup runs, I get the following error:

"Unable to continue the backup operation. Reason: 1. Ensure that you do not have an intermittent Internet connection. 2. Check if you have granted the necessary privileges on local firewall settings for it to run correctly."

The notification shows:

Files considered for backup : 7213 file(s)

Files already present in your account: 2848 file(s)

Files backed up now: 6 file(s), Size: 3.29 MB

I have checked the environment and neither 1 nor 2 above are likely. Any clues as to what to try to sort this out and get the backups completing properly?

Many thanks,

Richard

OK, so here's my story to add to the apparently long list of woes on this forum.

I used to use iDrive free version and it was just dandy. Then I started exceeding my limit. I didn't do anything about it for a while and recently decided to start paying and so increase my limit. That's when the fun started.

First thing was that iDrive wouldn't back up the file set I had working fine before. I was told I would have to delete it all and start again. Yes, that's right, get rid of all my carefully stored backup files! But I did it and set a new enlarged file list for backup. My backup set was now 18Mb, not huge but much bigger than the 5Mb limit I had previously.

Everything seemed to be going fine but it quickly became clear that it was going to take several days of continuous backup to upload 18Mb. Eventually, the system reported that it had reached about 60%. At that point I closed my computer down for the day expecting it to pick up again the next day when I booted up again. Nope. The system reported that it had backed up a less than impressive 1% of my backup set after a week of whirring away. Basically, it looked as if it had "lost" most of the backing up it had been doing for a week.

The most recent email from iDrive admitted that therer had been a problem their end and I "just" needed to reinitiate the process. Well, I started that about half an hour ago and the system is still "Preparing file list". I am not confident it is working even now. Reading this forum, it seems loads of people have similar problems. So here is the puzzle: how do iDrive manage to persuade online reviewers to say iDrive is so good if it actually is full of bugs?

On the positive side, I do at least get responses from iDrive, although they tend to be short and uninformative. And it does look as if they patrol this forum, so they do respond to complaints to some extent. So in case you are reading this Mr iDrive, my latest ticket number is ID01007660.

I have installed the iPhone app and would like to use it to recover at a remote location certain files that have been backed up on my home system. Recovery, I presume, would occur via email -- I'd email the file to the person that needs it. Can this be done with the iPhone app?

I run a small business and was using an old, under-powered laptop because I was too cheap to buy a new one. (Anybody see where this is going?) The laptop dies... with all my data and records on it.
Luckily, I had the laptop backed up with Idrive, but I had never restored anything before. I got a new, high-powered laptop and crossed my fingers that I could get everything back.
It was all restored without a hitch - it actually took less time than I thought - and I'm back in business. (Good thing the darn thing died on a Saturday. I was back up and running Sunday night!)

Denbar on "Turn off email verification when logging into website"

Hi - I noticed recently that we have to verify our account via a code sent to my email whenever I login from the web. That is a great feature to have, especially if you have private or sensitive files. However, I was wondering if this can be disabled. We are considering setting up a separate account just for the kids, which they will primarily use online, but the account will still probably have my or wife's email address and we don't want to have to give them the code everytime they login. Or even if did use the children's email, it still is pain for them to verify every time.
Let me know. Thanks
