julian t on "No incremental backup for Idrive wifi local backup"

I just buy a idrive wifi for local backup, It seems a very nice idea until I found that is not a incremental backup but a complete one. I have 3 machines with 500 or more gigas each one, It means that each backup takes at least 100 hours trough the wireless connection to finish.

For me is something incomprensible knowing that the online version is a incremental backup. It is is too much problem and time for such a simple task.

I'm running idrive on a Windows 7 Enterprise and it keeps telling me "Unable to retrieve the contents. Try again."

I've tried:

1. Upgrading to the latest version
2. Disabling and Enabling sync
3. Logging out of the program and logging back in
4. Clean uninstalling the program and then reinstalling on admin

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Selective Sync works fine on my other laptop which is running on Windows 10.

Hi all,

I am just trying to learn how to use idrive using idevsutil. I am trying to back up some test files, but I am getting an error message:

PP1$ ./idevsutil --xml-output --files-from=filelist.txt --password-file=MyPassword / anton.malykh@gmail.com@idrive.com
::home/
idevs: server sent "HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request" rather than greeting
idevs error: error starting client-server protocol (code 5) at main.c(2919) [sender=1.0.2.8]

Can someone please explain why this is happening? Or point me to a working tutorial? I have tried the official tutorial by idrive, but I'm stuck with this problem.

Also I am not quite clear about my username, which contains @ character. So the username@server string contains two @ characters, which seems suspicious to me, but I didn't find any mention of this in the official documentation.

Thank you and I apologize if my question is too silly

I'm sorry but trying to get around in Idrive is miserable. When I first logged in, it took me to my account where it asked me to change my password which I did. Then I tried to remove the automatic renewal from my account and it kept bringing up a popup screen offering 50% off. NO, I want the automatic renewal off my account. But now "NO WHERE" can I find where to log into my account to see if hitting the dang auto renewal button actually did something. It's like I'm locked into this company and can't get out. How can you not have somewhere "visible" a page where a person can go to their account page??

How hard is it, in 2017 to cancel an account on any services online? It's easy... you opt out, you tell them why, they stop billing you and everyone is happy.

Oh no wait... iDrive has a different way to process these : You disable renewal, but you also want to cancel your account, so you sent a email to the support team, but they wont accept a cancel request by email, which is funny, since your login IS your email. so... I write them again to make sure I won't be billed, since I dont want to waste my precious time over the phone with a rep that's going to try and convince me to stay... but they assure me that my account was not going to be renewed... guess... what a great surprise i got looking at a transaction from the lovely people at iDrive... they took my money and decided, without my consent, that they should remain on my payroll...

This is not the way to treat a customer. and I certainly hope that you have the balls to leave this comment here so people see what kind of business you guys operate!

MLB on "iDrive retains my deleted files somewhere - even after emptying trash!!"

This is odd indeed, but easy to reproduce. I discovered it by accident (long story). The bottom line is that after deleting files from the archive, and then emptying the trash, they can mysteriously RAPIDLY reappear in the archive after a backup. Let me explain....

1. Start by doing a manual backup just to get everything up to date.

2. Delete a large file from your archive. Something that would take a noticeable time to back up again. In my case, it was an Outlook .pst file a bit over 1GB.

3. Go to the Trash and "delete the trash file permanently". Verify, using both the iDrive app and the web interface, that the file is gone and that the Trash is empty. It's really gone now, right? (...but just wait!)

4. Run a manual backup again. The backup operation will quickly complete (i.e., in the normal amount of time it would take to scan through all the files in your backup set). In my case, that's about 5 minutes, but it would have taken more than an hour to actually push the 1GB file up to the archive from scratch.

5. Note that in the backup log, it will say "Files backed up now: 0" - so iDrive is saying that it didn't need to back up any files (even though we just deleted one of our files from the archive...hmmm).

6. Now go look in your archive, and VOILA!, the big file that you deleted and purged from Trash has mysteriously reappeared in its proper place.

So somehow, even after deleting a file from my archive and emptying the trash, iDrive has a copy of my file somewhere that it can quickly add back to my archive. Somehow, this makes me a little nervous! So I expanded my experiment (at some risk, but I wanted to know!).

1. I deleted ALL my files from the archive. That was 28,000 files, just over 100GB of data.
2. I "permanently deleted" them from the Trash. Everything looked like it was gone.
3. I ran a manual backup. Guess what - it took just 5 minutes (the normal time to scan through my files), and at the end, iDrive said "Files backed up now: 0", and when I looked online, all my files were magically back in my archive!!!

So, iDrive folks, what the heck is going on here?

Londinense on "IDrive Express: why bother?"

Given that uploading is painfully slow (see thread on that issue), I decided to request an IDrive Express. All augured well when I received the drive in London, and got both an acknowledgment of its return and a refund of postage within a matter of days. Since then, nothing! They promise a five day turn-round but it's now been almost a month and none of the files I put on the drive has reached my account. An initial request for clarification by email elicited the response that the matter was in hand, an online chat with a rep a few days ago informed me that the matter was being referred. Since then, no response to further email enquiries. I suspect I will be yet another dissatisfied client who won't be renewing his subscription when it falls due.
Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

iDrive is configured to backup at 1AM. At random times each day, usually once per day, I find internet access abysmal. As in, no device anywhere on my network can hardly get any data out or in. The main router shows 100% usage. It's sending and receiving tons of data. I run the activity monitor, and, I see a program named idrive_ver_001 doing al the data on the network tab. Yet, backup is not running, as stated in idrive monitor. Also, sync not enabled. CDP is not enabled. Just backup, and, not until 1AM. Monitor says next backup at 1AM, which is correct. Yet, this program keep sending massive amounts of data.

The only thing I can do is reboot to clear it out.

What is going on?

Prior to my auto-renewal, I received an email offering me double the space for $10 more. Not bad but I'm only using 11% of my space.

The email goes on to tell me: "When your account renews later this month, you will be automatically upgraded to this plan." How do you have the nerve to upgrade my plan without my permission?

I took care of this problem. But I'm hoping this heads up will be of use to others.

I have a Synology DS211J running the latest DSM (6.0.2-8451 Update 7) with the latest Synology package 2.03.23. I have followed the package installation instructs, but opening the IDrive application for the first time does not present a logon page. There are no errors in the event logs to provide. Any assistance is appreciated.

idwutil_600.exe (32 bit) is using a lot of cpu resources (approx 30%)= is this normal? is there a way to limit/change/etc this. 30% of cpu for backup service seems high. if this is the case and is normal, i will have to change backup services.

Wilde IT on "Excluded Files Questions"

Hi All,
I am testing iDrive as a potential backup solution for one of my clients. They are an accountants have have a LOT of Sage Accounts backup files. We don't really need to back up all of these, potentially none of them really so I am looking to exclude them from the backups. I have added "*.001" (.001 is a Sage Accounts backup file extension) to the partial names excluded files list but the calculated size of the total backup is still showing the same. The Sage backups account for about 75% of this size; I'm expecting quite a difference.
I'm running the backup now so I guess I will see in the end as to what is actually backed up - I suspect the calculated size (shown next to the "Change ..." button) is difference to the actual backup size as it isn't taking into account the exclusions? (It may be good to recalculate after exclusions have been added?)
Clarification on this would be good as this first backup is going to take some time - the internet isn't speedy in south-west England.

Is there a way to transfer all the files from one account into another account? Here's my situation: I have a 1 TB account, and I'd like to get a 1 TB account for my wife as well. Once one of us needs to upgrade to a 10 terabyte account, we'd like to combine our files into one shared account to save money.

Hi,
I have a few different sub-acounts set up in my IDrive account each with a couple of different schedules that run.
I have each of these set up with email notifications to "notify always" but I am not receiving these notifications.
Do I need to set up any email server details or do they use IDrives own email service? Each email account for each sub account is on a different email service so it can't be a problem with my own email service.

THanks

Titanium on "Straight talk on how to CANCEL a account permanently ?"

Seriously, why is it so hard to CANCEL a account?
Yes, auto-renew is off (it now says "(Your data will be vulnerable soon)."), BUT, you still have all the information on your server.

I don't want to keep my creditcard information on your server for another 7 months, nor any other of my personal data.

Why is there not a delete account permanently option?
It makes no sense.

Highly disappointing on how you treat customers.

so I had a problem with very slow backup, submitted an error report and was told to upgrade. Now when I run a backup the progress bar constantly alternates between the next two files to be backed up.

Things I've tried.

Rebooting - obviously
moving the two files to another (excluded) location - this results in the next two files to be backed up exhibiting the same symptoms
sending another error report quoting the existing ticket number. been three days now and no response.

Updated my Synology DS216+II yesterday. Killed iDrive dead. spent an hour with chat tech support and they have kicked it to the developers. No support from development on the weekends. This could take a while and require an iDrive update. I recommend not doing the Synology update if this is what you rely on for backup.

Too late for me save yourself. I will update when I get the answer from support, if I get an answer from support.

Hello there,

We have been with iDrive for maybe 2 months now...I tried several times to request for iDrive Express to no avail. Last I was told by live chat rep to send an email stating to agree to the shipping cost which I did last week and nothing until now. Also I was told to call the support phone number, and every time I call I get a message that says 'please leave a message after the beep'. Finally today I was told to send an email to support@idrive.com which i did last week and no reply. I really appreciate if someone could help with the following:

iDrive Express
app says only 4% backup but when I logged on to the portal it says 45% backup
it has been about 2 months and I dont know why it has not backed up the whole data of 120gb!!!
