larryre on "Speed of backup"

$

I am brand new to iDrive. I have successfully began a backup of my drive which conyains about 200GB of data. Afer several hours of backing up my data the indicator in the iDrive app still reads 0%. I looked at other complaints about this and you say you don't throttle data. I find this hard to believe. I have a 1.5GB upload speed and done a speed test while iDrive was running and I am getting 1.45B upload speed as advertised by my provider. I see that you have answered other users complaints and you suggest sending you a log file. However, I cleared the logs before I started the backup so there are no logs. I can see the message "backup is underway..." so I know it's running. Can you tell me what the problem might be? I can understand it being slow but at this rate it could take forever to backup this drive. My logon name is "larryre" (all small case).

Help please.

I used to use the windows version - until I got a QNAP NAS, so I was excited to run idrive straight from the NAS rather than having to have a PC act as the middle man to backup to idrive.

HOWEVER - the QNAP app has bugs.
-Any file >1GB seems to give this error: Reason : Value too large for defined data type
-Backup immediately gives false "backup started" message (it doesn't start)

julian t on "No incremental backup for Idrive wifi local backup"

I just buy a idrive wifi for local backup, It seems a very nice idea until I found that is not a incremental backup but a complete one. I have 3 machines with 500 or more gigas each one, It means that each backup takes at least 100 hours trough the wireless connection to finish.

For me is something incomprensible knowing that the online version is a incremental backup. It is is too much problem and time for such a simple task.

Whenever I start-up my computer (or at random times), I am annoyingly greeted by a pop-up windows by iDrive begging me to upgrade my storage, even though I do not want to. I see no option to disable it, so what should I do? Answer back as soon as possible.

Prior to my auto-renewal, I received an email offering me double the space for $10 more. Not bad but I'm only using 11% of my space.

The email goes on to tell me: "When your account renews later this month, you will be automatically upgraded to this plan." How do you have the nerve to upgrade my plan without my permission?

I took care of this problem. But I'm hoping this heads up will be of use to others.

I would like to know if it is possible to store a large size folder on IDrive without also having it stored on the device (pc/computer).

Ali786 on "Back-ups failing with connection loss - K9 Web Protection is the culprit"

After many weeks of my back-ups failing to upload, with iDrive error saying due to loss in connectivity, I have managed to solve this and want to share the root cause with others.

Basically, unknown to me "K9 Web Protection" running on my PC was interfering with the iDrive uploading my back-up files. If there only a few files to upload (or via Continuous Data Protection) the iDrive will upload fine. However, when you add a new (large) data set or run iDrive for first time with large data back-up set, then after several minutes iDrive back up fails with error message saying loss of connectivity / or firewall issue.

SOLUTION: You have to uninstall "K9 Web Protection" (just disabling to Supervisor mode will NOT work), and then run iDrive to back-up you main data back-up set of files. Once the iDrive back-up is complete and you are now in Continuous Data Protection mode, you can re-install "K9 Web Protection" again onto your PC. iDrive will work, as Continuous Data Protection will only be uploading a few files, which K9 Web Protection is OK with.

I keep getting emails telling me that Backup failed. It is suggested my internet connection is intermittent which it is not, OR that 'I should check I have the the necessary privileges on the local firewall settings'. Idrive has been working perfectly for months and suddenly this happens. What should I do?

idrive_frustration on "iDrive client, Unable to connect"

I'm an independent IT consultant, and many many of my customers are on iDrive as usually it just works.

One customer, single machine (Server 2012R2), doing file only backup on iDrive daily - working perfectly.

Sunday 22 May, server had latest updates applied, iDrive client updated, and rebooted.

Since then, the backups do not work suggesting internet connection issue. I've logged out of the client, and cannot log in "Unable to connect, try again".

* The username/password is correct - logs into web portal fine. Also, on another machine on another location, it works fine.
* Another iDrive account that works fine also gets the same error on the client
* I have removed the client, cleaned settings data, cleaned all keys etc, reinstalled the client, same issue.
* Windows firewall is off (always is as behind external firewall)
* Firewall allows all outgoing traffic and not been touched in 6mths+
* AV is not blocking anything (Sophos corporate), web filtering off.
* Server is hosted in Rackspace if that matters
* Checked https://www.idrive.com/online-backup-firewall-guidance and checked connectivity over shown ports to all IPs given, and connection from me to those ports works fine. (Proves firewall isn't blocking if nothing else!)

I had an online chat on Sunday, got nowhere, call logged. Had emails today saying with 2nd line. However, no facts, no information, and 36 hours down on paid-for backup software is shocking.

The scripted responses are also shocking on here!

Of course, iDrive have been suggesting its at my end blocking it. As I can connect to the servers and ports given, I doubt that, but...

I'm also sure I had this many moons ago with another client and it just started working later.

ANYWYAY
- Is there any way to test connectivity with a debug mode or test client?
- Any other possible fixes?

Thanks

Every time I try to do a full backup, it freezes at 63%, and the listing of what files are currently being backed up toggles between the same two files. Anyone know how to solve this?

I have an iDrive One. The web browser access shows DLNA and Samba servers.

How do I configure users and passwords on the Samba Server?

How do I load media in the DLNA server? The web browser only lets me select files. No way to add an album or artist at one time.

subject440 on "IDrive client does not connect, username/password mismatch"

Since mid-January 2017 my main computer has been unable to connect to IDrive, always reporting username/password mismatch.

This computer runs Win 10 Pro x64, there are three other computers at the same location which experience no problem at all, (WHS 2011, Win 8.1 Pro x86, and Win 10 Pro x86). It also works fine for two VPSs located in another country, (small static web site backup).

Username and password are correct, (it works on the other computers, Android devices, VPSs, and the web interface), I have uninstalled/reinstalled the client multiple times, disabled the firewall (Windows Firewall), all to no effect.

Two Android devices appeared to have the same problem but have now come good after reinstalling the app a couple of times.

I have reported this on ticket ID01009630 but apart from being asked to Send Error Report, I have heard nothing. I have since emailed asking about progress, still nothing.

Now running v6.5.1.27 and it still fails to log in, could this be a permissions problem with the config files (unable to read/write password)?

I only mention this because the log doesn't appear to be updated each time I try to reconnect the client.

So, any ideas?

Titanium on "Straight talk on how to CANCEL a account permanently ?"

Seriously, why is it so hard to CANCEL a account?
Yes, auto-renew is off (it now says "(Your data will be vulnerable soon)."), BUT, you still have all the information on your server.

I don't want to keep my creditcard information on your server for another 7 months, nor any other of my personal data.

Why is there not a delete account permanently option?
It makes no sense.

Highly disappointing on how you treat customers.

Do you have any suggestions how to solve this issue?

It would be great to be able to select witch folder the user wants to back up, because if you schedulle or do a backup all your photos (including whatsap, telegram) are being backed up.
I'd like to only back up my camera photos and videos atomatically.

P_Paquet on "CANCEL MY ACCOUNT"

How hard is it, in 2017 to cancel an account on any services online? It's easy... you opt out, you tell them why, they stop billing you and everyone is happy.

Oh no wait... iDrive has a different way to process these : You disable renewal, but you also want to cancel your account, so you sent a email to the support team, but they wont accept a cancel request by email, which is funny, since your login IS your email. so... I write them again to make sure I won't be billed, since I dont want to waste my precious time over the phone with a rep that's going to try and convince me to stay... but they assure me that my account was not going to be renewed... guess... what a great surprise i got looking at a transaction from the lovely people at iDrive... they took my money and decided, without my consent, that they should remain on my payroll...

This is not the way to treat a customer. and I certainly hope that you have the balls to leave this comment here so people see what kind of business you guys operate!
