Brian Biggs on "Windows notification icon should show more backup status details"

I'm new to IDrive (currently converting from CrashPlan).

I've noticed that hovering over the notification icon in the Windows System Tray only shows the "next scheduled backup". I'd like to see the following information displayed instead:

1) If you have more than one backup set, it should show the next scheduled time for EACH backup set (e.g., cloud and local).

2) If IDrive is currently backing up, show the status of that backup (e.g., elapsed time, time left, percentage complete, etc.).

3) Upload speed. I don't think I've seen upload speed anywhere in the UI at all. This would be nice to display at least somewhere, but would be helpful in the notification icon popup.

Thanks!

EastSider on "IDrive OneDrive backup misses many files and whole folders"

I tried to do a complete OneDrive backup of a modest (23 Gb) account (Windows 10 OS). I checked the photo directory and found that IDrive had failed to upload large portions of it even after three days. In fact all progress appears to have been made in one day.

What's worse is that IDrive gives no indication that the folders that appear to be successfully uploaded are missing files. One folder is missing 50 files of 1,046. Another is missing 6 of 1,186.

Some of my other folders, the larger ones, do not upload at all.

When I manually select these OneDrive folders to upload, the IDrive screen (on Chrome) freezes and hangs. A small number of files get uploaded and then no further progress is made.

My main reason for trying IDrive was the direct OneDrive upload, but clearly I cannot trust it to work.

I have a file that gets updated weekly. I have iDrive set to backup a file when ever a file changes. For the heck off it, I was going to do a restore of that file and found that it was last backed up weeks ago, during my initial backup. Why isn't this file being backed up when it changes each week?

I sent a support request in on Saturday, and hehe not heard a thing, not even an acknowledgment of the request. Very poor service.

1) In addition to limiting bandwidth usage based on a percentage, I would like the ability to specify a specific bytes-per-second limit

2) In addition to basing the network bandwidth usage on the local computer's activity, I would like to be able to throttle bandwidth based based on the time of day.

Example:
"Slow Time" = 100kB/s from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
"Fast Time" = 1000kB/s from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

Please add the ability to backup locally using the Linux perl scripts.

Would be very useful for (1) secondary backup location on local network and (2) initial backup using iDrive Express

For example a customer that got hit with CyrptoLocker or perhaps had a rogue employee who deleted important files. No doubt your customers had that empty feeling that their valuable data was unrecoverable. With granular recovery, it’s not only possible, but also easy. You can easily search documents, emails and attachments by keyword and restore exactly what you need.

I have 108 users worldwide using iDrive. When looking at the accounts from the Admin Dashboard all of my computers show "Failure" and "Offline". I have tested upgrading the users iDrive software, I still get the same issue. So it does not seem to be a version issue.

The users local iDrive does not show a problem. It is only the Admin Dashboard console. I spoke to support on chat which was not helpful.

I use a limited user for my work, while Windows iDrive runs in Admin.

Although I can backup C:/users/~/My Documents and its folders without difficulty, I get an error message in the log, saying there's no permission, if I try to backup any of :

c:/users/~/My Music, c:/users/~/My Pictures or c:/users/~/My Videos.

I was under the impression that Admin could access anything, and, using properties, I can see no difference between these folders.

There's virtually nothing in these folders (I use Public Music, etc.), so I can simply put them on the exclude list, but I'd like to know why it's happening.

I am testing IDrive with MS SQL Server 2014.
I have backed up a couple of databases but when trying to restore I get errors.
"The tail of the log for the database "cms_demo" has not been backed up" The error says to use "BACKUP LOG WITH NORECOVERY to backup the log if it contains work you do not want to lose."
I see in SQL Management the backed up database is set to truncate, not be left in a restoring state.

I am looking for best practices, and wondering what others are doing.
Does IDrive backup the full database and then keep log backups backed up periodically?
The sql backups in IDrive show *.dmp, *linc, and Sqldb.ini- does *dmp include the logs?

Backed up some folders to iDrive, I do not see the option to rename a folder/file or move a folder/file. Do not see any option for this.

As anyone experienced this issue? I recently noticed that when I do a manual backup of select folders IDrive will say the backup operation was a success, when actually only about 80-90% of the files have been backed up. When I retry the operation it immediately says the backup was successful, leaving 10-20% of my files.

I never would have found this error if I had not double checked the online directory and saw all of the missing files.

This is yet another big bug that could be affecting many users but they wouldn't ever know it without double checking every folder/file.

IDrive support continues to say they are looking into it, but I have had several other issues they are investigating which have not been resolved in 6+ weeks.

JustinLW on "Changing the name of a folder, or moving folders around on local drive"

I currently have my backup automated for my local drives.

If I change the name of a folder on my local drive, will iDrive re-upload the entire folder under the new name during the next backup?

If I move folders around on my local drive, will iDrive re-upload the folders in their new location?

If the answer to any of these is yes, what is the best way to coordinate changes to folders (naming or location) with my current iDrive backup?

Thanks for any help!

Our company has been planning to move to the cloud for a sometime time. Since we are not a bunch of technically strong persons, we have a lot of doubts about this. We have been researching about all things as the doubts come up. VOIP is important for us. We have fixed on this company to provide ( http://www.thinktel.ca ) for us. We want cloud storage too. But we want to use a different company for that. Is this possible? Will we need to use the same company for both services?

Hi,

When I try to remove a computer from the online dashboard using the (-) sign, it hides it but the next time I load the dashboard it is there again.
Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Distorted Vision on "Private Key Encryption: Filenames"

I was just wondering if filenames are encrypted on IDrive's servers when using private key encryption. The Terms & Conditions state:

"Encryption System
IDrive supports 256-bit AES data encryption before transmission from your computer using either (i) a default key or (ii) an optional user defined private key created by you. Based on your privacy and security needs, you need to make an appropriate encryption key choice. This encryption process encrypts the data contained within the file and not the file-name itself. For web and mobile based data transfers, data is sent over an encrypted channel with server side AES 256-bit encryption.

If you choose the default encryption option, the system chooses a key for encrypting your data. While your data is still encrypted, IDrive personnel may still be able to decrypt your data using your Registration Information if such a situation should ever arise.

For private key accounts:
Should you choose to use a user defined private key for encrypting your data, IDrive personnel will not have access to this key and it will not be stored on the IDrive servers. It is very important that you store your user defined private key in a safe place and maintain this key in printed form for reference. Any data backed up using the Services can only be retrieved using your key and if you forget or misplace this key then your data may not be retrievable. IDrive is NOT responsible for loss of data arising as a result of such cases.

When logging into your account via the desktop client, you will need to enter your private key, but it is only stored on the client and is never sent to the IDrive servers. In order to verify that the information you enter is correct, a derivative of that key is generated and matched, allowing you to access your account. When you provide your private key while logging into your account using the web application, the key is sent to our servers for the duration of that session only and the key always remains fully encrypted throughout transmission."

But I can't tell if its referring to private key encryption as well.

Can iDrive Personal Decrypt if I use a Private Key?

Based on the link / comment below - does it mean iDrive can only decrypt IF the default encryption is used (meaning not a private key)

https://www.idrive.com/terms-and-conditions

If you choose the default encryption option, the system chooses a key for encrypting your data. While your data is still encrypted, IDrive personnel may still be able to decrypt your data using your Registration Information if such a situation should ever arise.
