I must have had my setting wrong from the get-go. I am now over my 1000 gig limit, again. There is something about iDrive that just doesn't compute for my brain and if I get extra charges again I"ll simply cancel and go with my old online backup company. The problem -- I try to do archive cleanup and it won't let me, saying cleanup will delete more than 25% of files. In fact, it says there are 1031649 files and it wants to delete 1007622 files. All I want is a continuous backup in case something goes wrong and I need to restore, something that worked well with my previous company. How do I get out of this bind without damaging my backup?

iay on "small error in Linux backup script"
I'm a new user of IDrive, just started working with the Linux backup scripts. I came across one place where what it's putting into the log isn't entirely accurate, which was making it hard for me to understand what was going on. It looks like it is a cut-and-paste of code elsewhere in the file, so it was easy to fix in the end, as follows:
diff --git a/Backup_Script.pl b/Backup_Script.pl
index 3242d1c..ad07501 100755
--- a/Backup_Script.pl
+++ b/Backup_Script.pl

So it was testing $temp

Lasse Hjorth on "iDrive on Synology DS214Play keeps getting "server error 500""
Hi,
I keep getting the Server Error 500, after I have entered my credentials [after having clicked on the iDrive application on the NAS]
I'm running DSM 6 on a DS214play and the latest version of iDrive package .. I have installed Web.
I have not used it before, so I might need to make a setting change?
kind regards

psi on "Notify as 'Failure' if the total files failed for backup is more than _% of the total file"
When I try to set this to notify if more than 0% fails, the interface changes the value to 1%. This doesn't make any sense to me; We're backing up more than 1TB of data; if 10GB+ (i.e. 1%) of our data is lost that is completely unacceptable! It must be an error if event a single bit is copied incorrectly. I should be able to upload 1TB of files, then download them and SHA-256 hash them and get the same values as those of the source files.
I'm hoping it's just a poor interface and setting it to 1% actually means 0%. Please let me know what I need to configure to be notified via email if there is a failure of any sort.
CityRes on "Backup never works"
My client is running backups on a daily schedule but never makes progress. If I run a manual backup the
Backup Progress shows 'Preparing File List', then just says retrying and fails.
cpcallen on "iDriveDaemon using ~ 150% of CPU even though iDrive not running"
Part way through my initial backup, iDriveDaemon began using 140-160% of CPU (according to Activity Monitor). This continued even after I paused the backup, quit iDrive and quit iDrive Monitor.
iDriveDaemon did respond to a normal (non-forced) quit sent from Activity monitor, and total CPU usage dropped to near zero.
After restarting iDrive, I note that even though the iDrive app itself appears to be idle, iDriveDaemon is back (now using ~10% CPU and "not responding", according to Activity Monitor) and there is a substantial amount of outbound network traffic, strongly suggesting that the backup is in fact still in progress.
This is for iDrive 3.5.0.33 on OS X 10.11.6.

If I run manual backup it works but not schedule fails. It looks like what is backup and needs to backup is off.
sedetweiler on "Local Backup To Seed Drive Taking Multiple Passes?"
I swear this is diving me crazy. I am trying to seed a 4tb drive from iDrive, and it seems to finish. However, if I start it again it finds all kinds of other files it missed. Also, I want to add in another drive that has some duplicates, and I am assuming it will skip these like crashplan did. Am I missing something here, or is this software backing up duplicate copies?
Grant837 on "iDrive not backing up recently changed files"
I really worry about the reliability of iDrive.
My Evernotes db (almost 2GB)changes several times a day.
However, when I look into my ´Restore´ folders, the last version available is from 5 days ago.
I have my backups set to hourly.
Can others check this out, and does iDrive any comment for ths forum? (I have submitted an error report too)
Related to this, its interesting to note that I decided to try using the once a day daily schedule, set the time for 25 minutes in the future, and now, an hour later, its still running hourly backups...

Hello, I have problem in 2 computers when I select the folders to sync in Idrive software becouse in my sync folder doesn´t erase the other folders. The operating systems in the computers are Windows 10 and Windows Server 2008.
Is there a patch to solve this problem? Thanks
rubix45 on "Uploading PST Files"
Hello. I have an enterprise account with about 112 users and our largest problem is uploading Outlook PST files on the daily backup. (We do not have continues backup enabled nor do we use the Sync option right now).
Sometimes they upload with no problem, but more often then not the PSt files fail because outlook is open.
Does anyone know of a good method to upload PST files?

drivingmecrazy on "idrive says backup complete but it is far from it"
so i've had the scheduler working for a few months now... and i just notice, the backups aren't working.
ie: i have 493 files in one scheduled backup directory which has a few other directories within and the "root" of the folder's files worked fine but then it didn't backup the subfolder's contents... only the folder name.. and it's empty!!! yet when the scheduled daily backup occurs.. it gives me a "successful" report with 0 (ZERO) files added within multiple subfolders
so out of that 493 files... when i logged into the online idrive account via HTTP.. right click on said folder, show details, it says i have only 24files... NOT 493
anyways.. this gives me little faith of having a backup at all.. or wether it will even ever be a complete backup
fyi, i'm using the latest idrive app with sierra
Michael Vinca on "Graphical View of Backup Status"
iDrive (at least for Mac) offers me a view of what I have chosen to backup. (At least in a list form.) And it offers me a view of what is being backed up currently (as a progress bar.)
What I would find really useful would be a view that would be Finder-like (in that it would present to me the files on my hard drive in the same hierarchical fashion), but for each file/folder, there would be some kind of status/icon such as:
- Not part of the backup set
- Part of the backup set, queued to push to iDrive
- Part of the backup set, no change since last push to iDrive
djkdjkdjk on "Back up empty folders?"
IDrive is not backing up any empty folders or subfolders. I see this same issue on latest Mac and Windows clients. Is there a way to enable backing up empty folders? Often backing up folder structure is important, even if there are no files within. Especially for project work and app settings. Thanks
flyingcelt on "Archive Cleanup on mobile too"
I suggest to add the feature "archive cleanup" to the mobile app for files backed-up from mobile like: photo, video, etc. It takes forever to go through every single file from the web interface in mobile app folder to remove what we have deleted on mobile and don't want to remain on the server.
Thanks
CraigDH on "IDRive backup causing very slow download speeds and massive increase in ping"
Hi, I am just starting my initially backup. As expected my upload speed is affected. However so is my download speed. It drops from a usual 65Mbps to about 2Mbps! Also my ping increases from 31ms to around 350-400ms. It is definitely due to IDrive as the issue started immediately after I started my backup. My have tried a different router and broadband filters with the same issue so not hardware problem. The problem corrects itself if I suspend the backup. I can understand upload speeds being decreased but not Ping of download speeds Can anyone help. I use the Mac OS client. I also use the iOS apps and these don't cause the same issue.
pauloferreira on "The 'Killing' Solution"
Like many others, I am a Crashplan widow, but also a former Mozy user, and IT professional. In a few words, you have an interesting business model: customers pay for some space and do what they want. It's exactly what many people need, me included.
After long experiencie with the mentioned solutions and short trial of almost all of the others, let me share what I believe you must improve.
1. Prioritized backup sets (like Crashplan)
Allow us to select which folders must be backed-up fisrt and at which frequency.
2. Rename and duplication identification
If we have two identical files or have renamed it or its folder, there's no need for another upload, just hash it and compare it.
PS: It should be done for Sync too. If it's on backup, why to have another upload to Sync (and vice-versa)?
3. Kill Sync folder, make it a folder selection (like Google Backup and Sync)
Like before, I believe most people have a subset of folder that need Sync and they need backup for it also. Today I user symbolic link on your Sync folder to achive it, but it would be better to have just a selection. And your software deals with Backup and Sync operations.
4. Not to forget, integrate with new Files App on iOS 11
Today you are the one not integrated.
5. Ask for password when going to web from desktop app
I do have some computers that will be used by other people. They can go to my account just by one click in "Access Files from Web" because the software sends an authentication token. It's a problem. Fortunately, I have that master password on files, but the logger person can try to unlink devices without password and it's a major issue.
6. Create an easy sleep mode for some time (1h, 2, 4, days etc.)
7. Smart throttle (that's a killing!)
Everyone is in a network. You don't have just one machine being backed-up and all other stuff off. You are sharing your Internet connection with your family devices. And you have a choice: drastically reduce trottle or kill your entire network. A good idea should be to have a smart trottle that tests if there's free bandwith or if it's being used by others. I really don't know if it's possible without agentes, but there's a possibility.
Well there's some ideas of lacking features. You have a great solution and i really like snapshots, master key that can be included in other devices (and mobile), mobile backup, multiple devices, and some others.
Best regards
ZoneMaster on "What does the "Verify backup set every..." option do?"
Under the general backup settings for the most current Mac & Windows versions of the IDrive app is an item which asks:
"Verify backup set every ___ days at ___ or [Verify Now]
It is not documented in the app or online documentation. From the logs, it appears to start a scheduled backup (in addition to the normal schedule.
Please:
1. Confirm the purpose of this setting.
2. What are the recommended settings?
3. If I set a higher value for this setting, should I lower the frequency of the scheduled backups?
P.S. The online documentation for both the Mac & Windows applications is out of date & does not reflect the current program options.
JustinLW on "Changing the name of a folder, or moving folders around on local drive"
I currently have my backup automated for my local drives.
If I change the name of a folder on my local drive, will iDrive re-upload the entire folder under the new name during the next backup?
If I move folders around on my local drive, will iDrive re-upload the folders in their new location?
If the answer to any of these is yes, what is the best way to coordinate changes to folders (naming or location) with my current iDrive backup?
Thanks for any help!
