I installed the synology idrive package on a ds214. I did it as insructed( installed perl first and enabled webstation).

When I go to package it says url I get back a page not found error.
http://nas_ip/IDrive/index.php

I even uninstalled and re-installed the package. any idea why the files as not loaded in the web service? I assume that is part of the package install?

I installed iDrive v2.03.16 on my Synology DS412+. 2-Step verification is not working. I can login iDrive without entering a number and without checking the checkmark at the login page. I can log in just with administrator credentials username/password and add, modify and delete backup schedules. I do have 2-step verification enabled on my Syno.

The follow tasks are constantly running in the background of my machine, even if i close drive:

IDriveDaemon
Drive Monitor
IDWebManagement
IDWifiManager

I can't force quit these because they just automatically start up, even if Drive is NOT running.

These are eating up (albiet) small amounts of my RAM and CPU and would like to know how to turn these processes off when Idrive is closed.

Just checking my Synology Idrive Logs, to find out that I have no successful daily backups any more since 10 Sept.
Manually starting a Backup, yields the following error message:
@ERROR: auth failed on module ibackup from 5469626A.cm-12-2b.dynamic.ziggo.nl (84.105.98.***): unauthorized user

Hey Idrive - what's up? I would like to have a RELIABLE backup for my NAS. I was using Idrive 2.3.15 on a DS214play, just upgraded to v2.3.16 but no improvement. I am logging in as Admin.

Hi,

Yesterday I upgraded my QNAP TS-112P to version 4.1.1 and since the upgrade I cannot login to the iDrive app. The iDrive app was also upgraded to the latest version.

The password is definitely correct - as I logged into the app fine before the upgrade and no other application on the QNAP is having the same problem.

Please help!

Can we get a progress update on the Synology IDrive app? The Windows client tells me the % complete, # of files and the upload speed. Can we get the same info on the Synology client? Using the log files just isn't a good solution. Thanks.

... and what's worse, I'm a new customer.

The fact that a backup has to start over whenever there's a hiccup? Not cool. I'm backing up an entire computer.

Why not just pick things up from where the error occurred, starting at the file (or event) which caused the error?

Starting from the very beginning is flat out ridiculous.

I would like to know if it is possible to store a large size folder on IDrive without also having it stored on the device (pc/computer).

libove on "Sync - multiple folders, wherever they already are"

$

One of the key problems with almost all Sync services today is that they force *me* to move *my* files to where *the software engineer* thought would make it easy to build the service.

That's not very nice.

(LogMeIn's Cubby allows making any folder or folders into Cubbies, but does not run as a service and does not allow network share locations to be sync'd. Mozy Sync allows a network location to be the sync folder, but only allows one sync folder. Code42 CrashPlanPro rocks as a backup service, and I guess if I were an Enterprise with $1000+/year budget and a server farm their enterprise grade sync would probably do what I want ... but I'm not those things).

I have files here. And there. Some are on local disks; in my case, most are on file shares (Windows Home Server, NAS devices, etc). And they're not all under "My Documents".

A good Sync service will allow me to right-click on whatever folders I have, wherever they are, on one or several local *and network share* locations, and select "Add this to the stuff that I cloud Sync".

Then, each of my Sync clients (that is, each of the places where I install the Sync software and connect that installed software with my Sync account) must be able to specify to which locations (again, one or many, local storage or network shares) each of the folders sync'd from other clients will be stored.

So, let's say I have two computers "MONSTERS" and "INC". On "MONSTERS", I have some files locally on C:\Users\Me\My Documents\Fooey\ which I want to sync, and I also have some other files on (the network share drive) U:\My Stuff\Barey\ which I also want to sync.
I should be able, on "MONSTERS", to just open File Explorer and right-click on each of these two disparate folders and select "Add these to IDrive Sync".

Then, on "INC", I should be able to open up the IDrive Sync client program, see that one or more other sync clients have made one or more folders are available for syncing, and point them to be stored locally in one or more different places, e.g.

MONSTERS:C:\Users\Me\My Documents\Fooey\ -> INC:C:\Users\You\Fooey syncd\
MONSTERS:U:\My Stuff\Barey\ -> INC:C:\Users\Her\Barey syncd\

Let's see it, please, IDrive!

I had to replace my laptop, from Asus (old one) to Acer (New one). I can copy paste files from the old to the new no problem. Documents on the old copied to Documents on the new, Music on the old copied to music flder on the new etc.

Here is the problem. The file path on the old laptop is different to the new laptop. No my fear is, should I install iDrive on my new laptop (Acer), iDrive on the web will restore and duplicate files I already locally have to my new laptop. I hope I make sense.

For more detail:
On the old laptop the file the folder path reads:
DOUWASUS/ C/Users/Douw/ then all my folders on the C drive of the old Asus laptop like Documents, Music, Pictures etc etc

On the new Acer laptop the folder patch names are different:
DOUWACER/ C/Users/Douw/ then all my folders etc et
As you can see, the start is different, it says Aus on the old and Asus on the new. How do I make sure I dont get the new lpatop synced as a totally different computer. I lve in Africa where data plans runs at a .5 Mbps upload speead and is very expensive.

I'm trying to restore 528GB of backup up data after an external drive failure. I run Time Warner Cable, and pay for their fastest internet connection. Speed Test will tell me that my download speed is >200 MBPS. When running restore, the restore process shows that I'm only restoring at 3-4MBPS. The download test in the Idrive app shows a download speed of 1000 KBPS.

Why is the restore process not restoring at the speed of my internet connection. At this rate, I'll never be able to restore my hard drive.

PAUL VERHELST on "SLOW BACKUP"

backup speed IDrive is 12.8 Kb/s to 21.50 Kb/s.
Normal Upload speed result bij speedtest is 10.45 Mb/s ; about 500 to 1000 times faster.
What is the solution for this problem ?

When trying to access iDrive Linux, I get:

"Starting with Firefox version 34, Firefox blocks Secure Sockets Layer version 3.0 (SSLv3) to protect your information from attacks. SSLv3 is a type of technology that some websites use to connect to a server. It is no longer secure, which makes it easy for hackers to extract your personal information during a connection. For more information, see this blog post."

I seem to have the current version of iDrive:

# sudo idrive_admin.py status
New version, 1.1.5, of IDrive

How can this be solved?

britcowboy on "Synology App keeps stalling"

Hi Folks,
I installed IDrive on Wednesday, and started backing up, by the end of the day it had uploaded a grand total of 0.7GB. I then left it overnight and in the morning it had gone DOWN to 0GB, and I saw two jobs were running, as it had started a scheduled task. So I started the job again yesterday morning at 10am, at 4pm it uploaded NOTHING all day. It just sat there on my NAS using 25% CPU (well Perl is) and seemingly doing nothing.

So I restarted the NAS today and tried again. This time it started backing up but it just stalls randomly. So it's now 3:30pm UK time, and the last log is wrote is: [Fri Oct 9 13:52:41 2015] [Full Backup] [SUCCESS] [/volume1/blah/blah/blah/blah/blah/bla (the line stops here incomplete - doesn't finish off the file path or print the file size.
Meanwhile perl is using 25% CPU consistently.
What's going on?!

I'm using a DS412+ with a 80Mbps/20Mbps download/upload.
Any ideas?
Thanks

xplatinum on "Archive Cleanup leaving folders behind"

I noticed that the archive cleanup function will ONLY remove files from the online backup and will leave the folders containing those files there. I don't see how this is a logic appproach. If I remove a folder from my local drive, the changes should be 100% replicated in my online backup.

I shouldn't have to manually and periodically cleanup after the application by removing all the empty folders left behind.

When I log in through this link: https://www.idrive.com/idrivee/ibsjsp/IDEVSWelcome.jsp I don't need to enter my encryption key to access my data. This can't be ment to be and seems a serious security issue.

Edit:
I'm unable to download files, but can list the index. So it is visible what kind of files, with their names, I backed up. Even this I find unacceptable.

MLB on "Archive Cleanup does NOT compare local files to the actual Archive (but it should!)"

$

Summary: Archive cleanup does not compare your local files to the iDrive Archive as one would expect. Rather, it compares your local files to what's in a LOCAL DATABASE (cache of backed up files) that gets built during the backup operations. Unfortunately, several things can cause the local database to NOT be in sync with the contents of the actual iDrive Archive, and therefore Archive Cleanup does NOT result in a 1-1 correspondence between the local filesystem and the online archive.

Requested remedy: Archive Cleanup should compare the set of local files with what's actually in the online archive, not to the local cache. I realize there is a network efficiency to comparing everything locally (and this method might be 'good enough' 90% of the time), but there should be some way to force Archive Cleanup to do a REAL, FULL compare to ensure that the archive and my filesystem are truly in sync.

Discussion: I've been plagued for months by Archive Cleanup not 'finding' files in the archive to delete that had been locally deleted. The support folks told me this was because I had upgraded my hard drive (not a very compelling answer, but that's as far as we got). Then, last week, I was in a support session because Archive Cleanup was reporting some bogus filenames for deletion (files that didn't exist locally OR in the archive). The support person said we had to rebuild the database (WHAT database I thought!) by...

1. Recording my backup set details
2. Exiting iDrive
3. Going to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\IDrive\IBCOMMON
4. Renaming or deleting the folder with my iDrive username
5. Restarting iDrive
6. Setting up my backup set details again, and
7. Doing a manual backup

Running Archive Cleanup after this, it did indeed clear out the bogus filenames. But I noticed that while Archive Cleanup was running ('scanning' my thousands of files) that there was NO network traffic. Then the light bulb went on and I started experimenting. I discovered...

1. You can start iDrive, then disable all your network connections, and then run Archive Cleanup! Yes, it 'scans' my thousands of files and reports locally deleted items - all while disconnected from the internet. How? It's comparing my local files to the local database, not to the actual archive.

2. If I do the 7-step process above, but skip step 7 (which rebuilds the local database), and then run Archive Cleanup, it INSTANTLY completes telling me everything is in sync. This only makes sense if iDrive thinks the database represents what's actually in the archive (doesn't take long to compare an empty database of files!).

How can the database and the archive get forever out of sync (and Archive Cleanup therefore forever somewhat broken)? Well, anytime the local database gets rebuilt from scratch. Examples include...
- The iDrive support people tell you to remove it (not too common, but this was the case for me)
- You upgrade the hard drive in your computer (most people then reinstall apps and copy their data files, but do NOT copy the system appdata folders during upgrades - in fact, there are good reasons not to copy the appdata folders)
- You buy a new computer and just move your data files over to it (VERY common)

Bottom line here is that there are several common, credible ways that the local database can get out of sync with the real archive, and this will keep Archive Cleanup from properly doing what it is advertised to do. So, iDrive, PLEASE provide a method for doing a true Archive Cleanup based on the actual files in the archive, and not on a local approximation.

Where has the old IDrive that used to work gone? Building file backup lists uses 100% cpu utilization, backup run for hours and when they time out there is only a few megs backed up. Running 100MB fiber link to the internet and IDrive test show 3.53 MB upload speed. Real B/U speed is in the 100k range. Trying to select files for backup cause the program to "Stop responding" when adding a server. The screen takes several minutes to come back.

I have lost faith in this product with nearly daily releases. What is so bad that every day you have to rush out a new untested releases?

My issues are on a number of server at a number of locations and all of them seem to have the same issues. I keep seeing contact support but when I contact support if I am lucky enough to get a response it is always the same install the new version. No one there seems to have a clue or a concern that things don't work.

Hi,

I am not sure if I am only one in this boat. Downloaded the IDrive app from the Appstore and upgraded to 1 year storage. I paid through my store credit and received the receipt from ITunes. However, have not received the 1T storage. Got onto their chatline, told me to ring. Not sure why there is a chat line. I'm based in Australia and so a call could cost me a significant amount of money.
Emailed them and got a response"Our Development Team is working on the issue that you are experiencing and we will get back to you with the resolution as soon as possible."

WTF.

Atleast give me an estimated time for completion. I am not receiving what I paid for.
C'mon guys.

Thanks
