FlashPan on "Another UK CPlan Refugee - First Impressions, Questions and Wish List"

Hello all,

So I've moved over and started to get myself resetup with backing up data.

So far it is going ok. The Settings/Options is a little confusing plus seems to conflict some with the scheduler option.

My setup will be a win 2012 r2 file server backing up to idrive user data (and maybe my exchange server). My media server backing up data but nothing large like movie files. I'm already using Resilio sync to backup the movie files to another offsite box in a friends house. So will stay with this for now.

Chatting with sales and tech support I found that the courier cost to the UK for the recovery USB drive will cost $33 in each direction receiving and sending it back. total $66. Did I read something that you could keep the USB drive for a cost/fee?

You can run a cloud and local disk backup simultaneously (not tested yet though).

My first question is about how to start backup at X time everynight? My backup file server powers on at 00:00, DFRS syncs any data that has changed during the day, ready for iDrive to send too the cloud.

What I am not sure about now is what options I need to set so the backup set is checked for new data, and then the backup to start at X time every night? I prefer the backup not to auto run when the server initially boots up.

I also set the server to power down at 05:00. If the cloud backup does not complete in time will it carry on the next night from where it left off at the scheduled start time? Or?

Why can I only verify the backup set at a min every 2 days?

The data amount stored in the cloud. I that value the compressed and uncompressed value?

Wish List:

Like Cplan, ability to backup to another PC over internet.
Correct the timezone not PST.
Software will auto update without prompting (only see an option to check/prompt - not easy when I have a remote PC only powering on at 2am, which will mean I will have to periodically manually update).
Not having the tray icon still loaded after closing main application.
Throttle CPU usage.
Deduplication.

Well I think that is all for now. Am enjoying my journey so far.

Cheers
