Capital Studio Architects on "Delete duplicate files"

If I move a file from one folder to another, iDrive will recognize the moved file as a new file because it is in a different directory. Is there a way to delete the old file automatically?

Every time I select a folder from my D: drive or secondary drive, the preparing file list fails. The log report says that the folder/file does not exist even though I select it through the IDrive program. However everything from my C: drive uploads fine.

To something like this

/var/www/html/logs_%date%

Is the 'Archive Cleanup' feature available for Linux backups? I cannot find the functionality with the current scripts or in the online help.

Is there any negative impact when a scheduled backup runs while a manual backup is also running? I started a long running manual backup yesterday and overnight the scheduled backup started. Their backup file sets overlap so eventually they will try and backup the same files.

Cowthulu on "Exclusions not working"

I am using IDrive 6.7.1.0 for Windows. After backups, I get a number of errors because of a series of tmp files in several of the directories I am backing up. The error looks like this:

[ERROR] [01/23/2018 3:21:52] [C:\Users\*****\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\BIT89F0.tmp Reason: File / Folder does not exist]

I tried adding a partial filename exclusion that looks like this: *.tmp, but it doesn't seem to work. Some other areas of doc suggest specifying: .tmp

So, three questions:

1. What is the correct format?
2. Is it possible to specify the directory as well as the extension as part of the exclude (doesn't matter for tmp files, but might for others)? In other words, can I just exclude, say, *.png files if they are in a particular directory?
3. Can you update your doc to reflect the format?

Thanks

So does using a slider setting of 0 or 100 not throttle any bandwidth? I've tried using each in the the slider settings and have not noticed any change in upload speeds.

I have four servers that have started exhibiting this error message. These servers have not had a problem until recently. They will run for about 10 minutes and then fail with this error:

[Unable to continue the backup operation. Reason : Possible reasons: 1. Ensure that you do not have an intermittent Internet connection. 2. Check if you have granted the necessary privileges on local firewall settings for it to run correctly.]

Tracefile.txt contains this error:

[01/24/2018 10:09:10] Error in GetBackupsetType : System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at IDComponent.Utility.Util.GetBackupsetType(String backupsetName, String username)

I have disabled the firewall on the server, uninstalled, cleaned, and then reinstalled the latest version of iDrive, Disabled Capture ATP, Gateway antivirus, and content filter on the firewall, all to no avail.

I ran procmon and found iDrive trying to communicate to jordon.summitprojects.com. What the heck is that and why is iDrive sending my data there?

I have sent log files to no avail. I tried chat support to no avail. They were supposedly supposed to escalate, but no word back.

We have gone almost 2 months without a successful cloud backup on several of our servers. If this isn't resolved this week, we will be pulling all of our business.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Mark

Your Computer Guy on "When there is nothing to backup, iDrive shows backup status as "Failure""

As described above. My customers are set up with daily backups and sometimes there are no changed files to backup. IDrive then shows "Backup status" as "Failure" and the summary page shows "[Unable to continue the backup operation. Reason : There are no files to backup]"

Come on, that's a false alarm. When there is no changed files to backup, don't say the backup failed! I don't want panic calls from my customers when that happens.

Grant837 on "How to I remove a scheduled backup"

I had a back up to a local drive but stopped once I found out iDrive only does full backups locally, and not incremental. I deleted the files locally, and have no files selected to back up, but could not see how to remove the actual ' local backup' listing you see when choosing to set back up properties, so instead I set all the scheduling settings to off, etc.
Still, I get a regular message that my local backup to drive W failed because the drive is not there (indeed, I removed the W drive too).
How can I get rid of this message

Hi, I started up a new free account just to see how this worked.

I can log in on the PC but when I try logging in via the QNAP it says the account doesn't exist or username/password doesn't exist.

Is this because the free account doesn't work with NAS devices?

PreZ on "200GB LOGs? no thanks!"

So apparently IDrive keeps transaction logs, I guess. But NOT where it keeps backup, on windows it keeps these in C:\PogramData\IDrive\IBCOMMON\logs\<account>\<computer>\log.

Why do I care? Because rather than being sensible, and locating these with my local backups, on the drive array that is multi-terabytes big, there is, from what I can see, no way to tell it where to store these logs, so it stores it on the SYSTEM drive, consuming all the space on the space-constrained-but SSDs.

*sigh* I understand IDrive you want to make this a simple experience for newbie users, but taking away important configuration items like this leading to completely filling up a system drive because of your non-relocatable huge files is kind of unacceptable.

How long does it take for idrive to upload an express drive once it’s received there? The email I got when the drive was received simply said soon but it’s been 4 days already and nothing uploaded on my account. Thanks much for any assistance.

taliesin1077 on "IDrive eats my entire Internet connection"

The last few days, since I've installed IDrive, whenever IDrive is backing up, my Internet goes nonexistent. I have a ping -t to http://www.google.com and the ping just starts dropping massive numbers of packets, along with destination net unreachable errors. I could see speeds dropping when IDrive is backing up, but to have this amount of packet loss? I can immediately resolve the issue by stopping my backup. Instantly, ping replies return, with low latency.

I did Backup Express, so once the drive is back at your location and you import the data, my backups will drop in frequency and size, etc, but is this normal from your point of view? Does iDrive open a VPN tunnel connection to back up to your data center?

Hi,

I run the Synology version of iDrive and it works well. However I have a small problem. I want to backup the /homes folder and it seems that the only folder getting backuped is /homes/admin (the user I use to manage and install the box). Other folders aren't backuped at all and I don't see any message in the logs.

I tried to add the user HTTP to the permissions of /homes (RO) but it didn't changed anything.

Any idea ? Thanks

Lucas on "Better Reporting"

It would be a great idea to add to the email backup report, How much data is left in your plan. That way customers would not get unintentional and huge overage bills. It also allows customers to manage their backup data better because they have this information sent to them.

Sending customers huge bills without notice, and not allowing them to resolve the issue first, is not good customer service.

backupfam on "We *NEED* 2-factor authentication"

It's 2017 and IDrive still doesn't have two factor authentication, a standard option for any modern business that cares about security.

IDrive is awesome but this is a huge missing security feature. Please let us use two-factor authentication for IDrive.

Even an SMS option would be good, but services like Google Authenticator, Authy, etc. are more secure.

Thanks!
