oldie70 on "Desktop client has disappeared"

Toshiba laptop, Windows 7 x64, Chrome.

I installed iDrive yesterday, and did my first backup.

Today, I'd like to amend the backup set. However, the client has disappeared from the box at the bottom right of my screen.

It's not listed if I click on 'Start', nor does 'Search' throw anything useful up.

Some other queries :

1. I'm getting 'ERROR' and 'no permission' for folders like "Users/name/cookies"; should I run in the Admin account?

2. I found this forum via a google search; how do I find my way back to it?

3. Is the 'backup set' what's on the PC, or in my account?

Many thanks

As a new user (yesterday) I think I've got a general grasp of how it works, but I'm hazy on the details. So just a few question:

1. The Windows desktop (if that's the right name) has two panes. The top pane seems to be the entire C: drive, plus presumably any extra drives you plug in.The bottom pane identifies the files/folders to be backed up.

Is this correct?

2. To stop a folder being backed up, would I simply untick it in the top pane? When would I use the "right click and 'exclude'" approach?

3. I have folders of photographs which aren't going to change (holidays, etc.), and the same with music CDs. Can I simply untick these in the top pane, so that they don't get checked every backup? Presumably this wouldn't affect the copy in my account?

4. I have a numbers of files called 'desktop.ini' backed up. Do I actually need these?

5. If I back up archives from CD/DVD, for example, photos from previous years, and then subsequently run backup without the CD/DVD, does this do any harm?

Many thanks

I boot to a smaller hard drive and keep all of my files on a large 1TB drive. I'm only backing up the large drive that currently has about 85-86 gigs of pictures, videos etc.

I've used several online back up services at my office and decided to try this on at my home and it is so slow! It ran all night long and is only at 3% complete. I have way more data on my office computers, using on of your competitors, and it backed up initially in a matter of a few hours.

Do I need to change some settings or what? Please respond.

I have two IDrive accounts, one for my home computer and one for my work computer.

I accidentally logged in with my home IDrive account while on my work computer. Now even when I am logged in with my work account, IDrive gives me pop-up messages about missing updates and upgrades for the home account that I do not want to use on this work computer.

How do I remove any trace of my home account from my work computer (while not changing any setting of my correct account if possible)?

I have been in contact with IDrive Support for several weeks over a serious and repeated back-up failure. After numerous emails and several online chat discussions, I have not received a satisfactory explanation, and nor has the seriousness of the problem been acknowledged. The most recent response, received today from IDrive Support by email, is completely inadequate and I am getting nowhere.
Can someone please tell me how to escalate my problem and get it taken seriously?
(Please, no answers telling me to email support@idrive.com - I've already done that, many many times).

If I share a file with a friend, and he opens an idrive account, will the shared folder appear in his folders, within his account?. And is there a way to make shares last a semester?.

Thanks.

I downloaded the free version of IDrive. I hit my space limit and decided to spend the money for the upgrade to 150 gigs. The backup started and then got stuck at 67 percent. It has been there for days. I am going to uninstall and reinstall the software. Incidently, it took days to get to 67 percent. Is that normal?

Helloooo iDrive:

I've posted here recently regarding the upgrade to v6, resulting high memory & CPU use, and seemingly continuous upload, despite the fact that I was already backed up. You've had 3 days to look at the log files (ticket number: ID00360661), but not so much as a peep from iDrive concerning these problems.

I've since uninstalled iDrive, as it was making my PC unuseable. I'll almost certainly be cancelling my account as well. What I'm wondering about now though is: what's with the lack of customer service??? :^(

oldie70 on "Admin user can't backup user's folders - lack of permission"

I use a limited user for my work, while Windows iDrive runs in Admin.

Although I can backup C:/users/~/My Documents and its folders without difficulty, I get an error message in the log, saying there's no permission, if I try to backup any of :

c:/users/~/My Music, c:/users/~/My Pictures or c:/users/~/My Videos.

I was under the impression that Admin could access anything, and, using properties, I can see no difference between these folders.

There's virtually nothing in these folders (I use Public Music, etc.), so I can simply put them on the exclude list, but I'd like to know why it's happening.

I just opened a new account and have multiple machines to backup. One machine is backing up very quickly but, all of the other machines display 'Retrying' until they time out. I have plenty of up bandwidth to handle all of the machines at once. Can only one machine backup at a time per account? Let me know.

mt on "idrivewd_600.exe has cpu core pegged continuously"

Exactly as the title says, idrivewd_600.exe is continuously using all CPU time on a core.

Observing the process in procmon reveals it's not doing any registry or filesystem access (or anything else observable through procmon really).

Looking at the stack in procexp, it seems to either be stuck in a loop calling DoEvents or stuck in DoEvents itself:

This is what one of the (shorter) snapshots of the stack looks like:

wow64.dll!Wow64LdrpInitialize+0x441
wow64.dll!Wow64LdrpInitialize+0xa75
ntdll.dll!NtRaiseException+0xc
KERNELBASE.dll!RaiseException+0x49
MSVBVM60.DLL!EbGetHandleOfExecutingProject+0x22b3
MSVBVM60.DLL!rtcDoEvents+0x131

(I have also observed this behaviour in idwindows_600.exe as well)

OS: Windows Server 2012 64 bit

I have an old type IDrive account (150GB Personal)

I could buy a new account and upload all my files again, but version histories up to 30 copies are very important to me so that has not been an option.

It seems that migration service was up at a momoent, but closed now for a while.

If migration service goes up again, will version histories be migrated as well?

PC Dr on "Suggestions for idevsutil.exe"

It would be useful to be able to specify the files/extensions that should be excluded (such as .BAK) and the subdirectories that should be excluded when a parent is included. It would be helpful to be able to restrict the output file to files that were uploaded and to avoid listing percentage upload snapshots. It would be appreciated if idevsutil would know to exclude itself if its directory is a branch of one of the directory trees to be uploaded.

PC Dr on "File names with accented characters"

idevsutil is tripping up on file names that contain accented characters. Here's the error I receive:

IOERROR [/C/path_here/abXcXdefg.txt], : No such file or directory
idevs error: some files could not be transferred (code 23) at main.c(2726) [sender=1.0.2.3]

Each "X" in the file name is an accented character. The file names are stored in a text file in ASCII format. The accents show up correctly in the text file. What file format is required for accented characters to be understood by idevsutil?

Just upgraded to 6.0.0.17 ... All seemed to go fine.
But when I try to view Logs there is nothing there?
Not even the backup that just ran this morning.

Can the new version not view Logs from the previous version?

I change my server from a IGEPv2 board (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IGEPv2) based on a Texas Instrument OMAP3530 720 MHz to a A20-OLinuXino board based on ARM® Cortex™-A7 Dual-Core (Allwinner A20 sun7i http://linux-sunxi.org/A20).

Now when I try to use the idevsutil used in the previous board I've got this error:
unable to execute ./idevsutil: No such file or directory

I have to add some dependency library to my debian system or the Allwinner A20 is not supported?
Have you plan to supportor it?
It's used on this low power boards:

I have all data in two servers: Lacie and Buffalo. I have rooted both ones but they both lack many features compared to full linux and I do not want to play with tuned versions of linux for them.

I recently bought Raspberry Pi. One planned role for that is the backup machine. And surprise, Synology ARM version of idevsutil works OK in Rasbian.

It would be very wonderful if you provide the facility of directly transferring files to our account from the web. Now we need to first download a file to our computer then upload it again.
